Sweet Relief

It was a hit.

Raves about the food, the cake, the presentation, even the invitation. The weather held and the bugs stayed away- pretty amazing considering the morning rain and the proximity to the “wild life preserve” aka the swamp. Friends came, family came, coworkers came, all ate their fill and some sat with us around the bonfire until way past bedtime.

My mom had a good time too.

Probably 60 or so people filed through at one time or another, just enough at once so it wasn’t overwhelming, but enough that it was always fun and full. The food held up really well. We ran out of one thing and it wasn’t pork or beer, so I think I can say we did a damn fine job.

I can’t say I’d like to do this for a living, but I have to say I managed it quite well. This morning we had the yard all put back- tents down, coolers emptied and rinsed, chairs all collected and stacked, garbage and recycling in the garage– all before the middle sister got up.

We did a good job. The best part though was that my dad called her to wish her Happy Birthday and told her to enjoy herself and have a Nice time. He was not invited, didn’t want the drama or the distraction and so the call meant that much more, more than him being there ever would. Baby steps.

So, hats off to my Honey, Yenna, Ryon and Teej. Nice job y’all.
