Just another Minnesota Mom blog.

Juno you like it.

So for the third weekend in a row we trekked out to see a movie. Juno was the choice and we had all sorts of expectations going in.

First of all, we were there way to early. I though the movie started at 10, and it didn’t start until 11:25 so we walked around Rosedale for a bit, bought some clearance at Bath and Body Works, got some coffee at Caribou, tried to find something I had to have at Williams and Sonoma. Just killing time.

Finally I can’t wait any longer, I just want to sit my ass in those damn comfy seats so we head over to the theatre, still, really early. The pre-movie trivia plays the same things over and over- Austin Powers word jumble, Sean Connery and Harrison ford only 12 years apart, Casablanca working title, Dolphins sound like woodchucks…then we had the pre-preview previews. The Other Boleyn Girl, this time with an invitation to join a book club by Philipa Gregory…weird. Then the previews, I can’t remember any of them right now.

The movie starts and like I said, high expectations. Diable Cody wrote this in a Starbucks at a local Super Target, how much more home grown can you get. I know, I know, she’s from Chicago, but she wrote it here, about here, this one belongs to us. Suck it Chicagoland.

Great soundtrack right from the start, it doesn’t over power, I like it. Not enough Rainn Wilson if you ask me, I think all of his lines can be found in previews and they are all hysterical. This movie did not disappoint in any way. The story is great, the acting is out of the park. My husband kept saying it’s the best movie he’s seen in years- and we just saw Atonement and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly! It is deserving of all the accolades and I hope it has a good run at the Oscars because it really touches all the bases. I think the last 15 minutes I spent dabbing tears from my cheeks, you can’t help but feel for the characters.

Later on we tried to watch Eastern Promises.
They have patronymics!
They train to play classical music!
They eat Borscht!
Tatiyana is common like Jennifer!
They wear lots of black leather!
I’ll stop there, I just could not watch this movie.

It’s a pity because now I’m kind of weary of watching 4 Months, 3 weeks, 2 Days. All the drab communist horror, I may not be able to take it.

After we stopped EP we turned on Superbad. For me this is like Borat- overrated. I watched it again this morning and still, overrated. I can see that it’s the American Pie for my BIL’s generation, but I did not think it was that great. I can hang with the potty humor and this just did not do it for me. At all. I did like Michael Cera though. This kid is fantastic.
