Wow…is it already Tuesday?

So I haven’t had a real update in almost a week, I’d better get crackin’!

Big development of the week…the boys now FEED THEMSELVES!

Not their go down for the night bottles or wake up in the morning bottles, but the little in between ones. They have been working pretty hard at this and something just clicked. Just moments ago they both went right to sleep on their Boppies after about 2 ounces each. Easiest naptime transition. Ever.

I feel really torn about this though. On one hand I really feel that it’s important to hold your baby while they get a bottle- it’s a huge part of nursing and we’ve really done everything we could to make sure they get this closeness at every feeding. I’m kind of a Nazi when it comes to holding babies and NOT propping up bottles. But NOW, it’s a whole new ballgame! I still think it’s important (and it’s not even just what I think…read any baby book out there- it’s important to hold your kid while they eat) but they are ready for a little Independence I think.

If you’ve ever fed my boys you know they are completely enamored with the bottle, hands all over the nipple, in and out of the mouth constantly. Now they figured out how to do it themselves and I’m cool with them feeding themselves the little snacks they have throughout the day. It’s going to cut way down on the panic as I rush to get both boys and two boppies in place so they can eat. It’s tough feeding twins!

So, they are getting more independent. It’s all going by so fast. One day they are these screaming red wiggly bodies and the next they are sitting up, babbling away and stealing each others toys.

Sunday Auntie Ryon and Uncle TJ went back to Kansas City after a week long stay. Here is Lincoln and his Auntie (someday Godmother…when we get around to it…seriously, it’s going to happen…I really have no excuse here I know) I just love how they are so excited to see each other. I think we are so lucky to have family that loves our boys so much. I can’t wait for them to meet their uncles!

And this picture is just too funny. They were playing together in Lincoln’s crib- John thought they looked like a couple of jailbirds. He has this running joke that he needs to head on down to the precinct and see if he can get a group discount on bail from officer Elliott…obviously a life of crime is not something we wish for our boys but we do not rule out boyish hi jinx.

I know it doesn't make you feel any better, but the "closeness" of the breastfeeding is really lost when you're doing it two at once, anyway!!! I applaud the ability to let them prop a bottle occasionally. I mean, they have to learn to keep up with their Daddy somehow, right?!?! 😉
