What a difference a week makes.

It’s been a week since we really started to think about this whole new bedtime routine. As I sit down to type this at 7:30pm with two sleeping babies I can’t help but wonder why we didn’t do this 6 months ago.

So far Wyatt seems to be the hold out- he makes the biggest fuss when we put them in bed and wakes up around 3am. We just rub his back a little and set our timer for 20 minutes. If he’s still up when it goes off we go back in. Usually he goes back to sleep long before that. Lincoln has been sleeping until around 6am. Not bad considering he doesn’t wake up- even through Wyatt’s 3am scream session.

On top of the more regular bedtime routine they are both taking more consistent naps- at the same time. Let me say that again for those of you who skimmed this sentence…AT THE SAME TIME!!! Twin Moms know what a win this is and it’s been a struggle we’ve had since day one.

So, WOO HOO!!!

I was never really on board with the whole CIO thing. I don’t believe babies who don’t sleep well are manipulating their parents. In our case I think it was more that WE had trained them to get up. We put a bottle in their mouth every time they made a peep at night (which meant we were up, feeding them bottles at all hours of the night), they were always rocked to sleep with a bottle. It’s a hard habit to break I guess.

They are now getting a bottle before bed, but they are not falling asleep with it. It’s more of a bottle (which they’ve only been drinking about 4oz of instead of they full 8oz) with story time, then we go to bed. They get a bottle first thing in the morning. That’s it. Two bottles a day. That in itself is a huge change from two weeks ago.

So I guess you can say I’m converted. And seriously looking forward to the four days off I have coming up where I won’t be rocking a baby until 11pm. We just got four hours of our life back, every single day! How awesome is that?

Thanks for your comment. I am right there with you on this. What a monumental life change this has been for us. No more holding him back to sleep and him just getting frustrated that he isn't asleep. I was against it for so long, but push came to shove and it was TIME. I certainly won't wait 15 months with the next child. Congratulations on your success! Wishing you many peaceful nights to come.
