Up to the Lake.

Yesterday morning we took our annual 4th of July weekend trip up to Big Pine.  We decided that camping in a tent wasn’t in the cards this year and chose to just pack the boys up for one day.  It worked out pretty well actually.  It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day and the lake water was just right for cooling off.  We got a little bit of a late start- Lincoln and Wyatt decide they were going to sleep in and we didn’t hit the road until almost 9am.  The traffic was moving pretty well- we didn’t really hit any until we could see Mille Lacs, so that was a plus.

When we rolled into what used to be the “cabin” (not sure what to call it at this point since the cabin is gone) Grandma was waiting for us and we all raced down to the lake for a little swimming.  Wyatt was the first one in and had a bit of a rough start- he took one step and went face first into the water.  It took him a few minutes to warm up to it after that.  Lincoln and Mom stayed in near the shore until he got acclimated.  He was having a great time until the minnows started to nibble a bit too aggressively.  We stayed in the lake for awhile and then ventured ashore to have some snacks and a little quiet time.  Lincoln was falling asleep on my shoulder as we were wading through the deeper water.

We set up the Pack and Play under some shady trees and let them try and wind down.  This was a good setup until Wyatt decided that he was not happy with Grandma driving away and then all hell broke loose.  Wyatt started stepping on Lincoln (poor guy just wanted to sleep) and then Lincoln was up.  Finally we released them from Baby Jail and Grandma pulled out their fishing poles.

Now their first time fishing off the dock was a bit chaotic to say the least.  I didn’t know the fish were going to be so happy to take a chomp on those hooks.  I mean as soon as you dropped your line you had a fish.  I was taking pictures and although I tried my best to get what I could it was all over in a matter of minutes.  In the end, both boys each caught 2 sunnies each.  Nice job boys!

We ended the day with a quick dinner of sausages and pasta salad back at the Old Howe Property (better?) and then we packed up and hit the road.  It was a long, HOT day and I was exhausted.  The boys were ready for bed and they weren’t going to tolerate anymore messing around.  They wanted their milk and they wanted to sleep.  End of story.  We stopped at the Junction on our way out of town and filled up their sippies and got on the road.  No traffic all the way home- PERFECT!  If you go “up north” you know the drive home is almost always a stop and go affair.  This was the perfect end to the day.

A post swim ice cream snack- Thank you Florence!
Hey!  Did you forget about us?
On the dock.
Little Feet.
There were a lot of people helping us get ready to drop our lines!
Lincoln’s line is down.
And about 3 seconds later he had a fish!
Not sure what to do now…
Hey Mom!  I got one too!
Wyatt wasn’t afraid to get a closer look.
