Apron Day: Take 2.

Well we got a little busy with things the past few weeks and Apron Day just didn’t happen.  We cooked, but there were no aprons.

Today?  I am wearing my apron.  Country roosters, picked up in Great Falls Montana on my first trip out to visit my husbands Grandparents in 2004.  It’s a big ol’ thing that’s good for wiping out pots and pans after they’ve been washed in the sink.  It’s not a figure flatter-er by any means.

Here’s what I’ve cooked up so far on this Apron Day:
Beer Bread, from scratch made with Summit Pale Ale
Banana Chocolate Chip Crumb Cake

Here’s what’s to come:
Oven Fried Chicken- it’s currently marinating in Buttermilk and Frank’s Hot Sauce
Fresh Green Beans with Pancetta and Shallots
Pureed Butternut Squash with Butter and Brown Sugar

I’m pretty pumped for this meal.  I have never in my life fried chicken in the oven and I am a mess when I do it on the stove, so we’ll see how it turns out.  I’m hoping for no smoke alarms or oven fires.  Let’s cross our fingers.

Saturday is turning into Dad’s day to cook.  Last night we had gnocchi with pesto and wild rice sausage.  It was fantastic.  Mostly because I didn’t have to make it and I have to say my expectations were pretty low.  I wasn’t in the mood for pasta and wild rice sausage sounded terrible (you can take away my Minnesota card right now) to me at the time.  It was amazing.

I’m dreading going back to work.  Sundays may not be Apron Day after that.  It might have to shift to Thursday or something.  We’ll see.
