We are Moving!

Let’s all take a collective deep breath.

It was a loooong weekend here.  Mostly for Yogi Dad.  He did all the heavy lifting.

I did the panicking and freaking out and OMG we have to MOVE!  NOW!  PACK THE CAR LET”S GOGOGOGOGO!

Yeah, Saturday was not my best day.

Yesterday was good.  Thanks to my awesome sister who let us pick her up after a long night out with her girlfriends so she could sit with the boys while we made a few trips back and forth and I could get my bearings in the new house.

What is it about moving that makes all of your stuff look like it needs to be replaced?

This is going to be a long week, the goal is to have pretty much everything except furniture and big boxes out of here by Friday night, cribs disassembled ready to go, any boxes staged in the living room.  We are going to be ready.

The guy at Two Men and a Truck laughed and said that is what everyone plans on doing.

He doesn’t know just how cheap we are!  Or the list of things I would rather spend the money set aside for this move on…

So, wish us luck!

And please, if you’ve got any moving tips I am all ears.  Or eyes.  Would it be eyes since I am reading it?

You can do it! Put the kid stuff in the truck last, so it is the first in the new house so you can do their rooms first. Then put your kitchen together. Keep an empty box in every room to catch the stuff that needs to be moved elsewhere that turns up while you're unpacking. Break down and take out boxes as soon as they are empty. Lock the cat up somewhere quiet until the bustle has died down so he can come out and explore after everyone is in bed and the house is quiet. If you can totally empty a room in each house so you have a safe place to corral kids, it is awesome. Pop up a gate and toss in some toys, and hopefully the novelty of no furniture will let them play independently for awhile. I was SURE bedtimes were going to be horrible after our move, but we stuck to the routine and it was really not very bad. Took a little longer than normal, but it was much easier than I had anticipated. Whew. Can you tell we just finished a move?

Forward your mail and label your boxes AND the rooms with COLOR. Sometimes the men doing the heavy lifting don't read so well:) Also, if you can avoid them trampling on carpet or dragging stuff through narrow hallways, I highly recommend it. Oh and don't let them drink until AFTER.

    Oh the things I've learned…
