You are not Alone in This

Today was better. A little bit better anyway.
Certainly not a Big Autism day. Maybe just a middle of the road autism day.

Cold is the water
It freezes your already cold mind
Already cold, cold mind
And death is at your doorstep
And it will steal your innocence
But it will not steal your substance

We got everyone to bed. Melatonin went into the milk tonight and they didn’t throw it back at us, so that is a plus.

But you are not alone in this
And you are not alone in this
As brothers we will stand and we’ll hold your hand
Hold your hand

We got to picking up from the day, and as we talked over all the feelings of the past few days while I did dishes.

Then this song pulled up on iTunes.

And you are the mother
The mother of your baby child
The one to whom you gave life
And you have your choices
And these are what make man great
His ladder to the stars

It seemed very fitting. I almost thought it was staged. I’m not usually one for hearing what I need to hear in lyrics, unless you count the break-up with my first college boyfriend where I played I Will Survive about a thousand times on loop as loud as my stereo would go.

But you are not alone in this
And you are not alone in this
As brothers we will stand and we’ll hold your hand
Hold your hand

You are not alone in this.

And I will tell the night
Whisper, “Lose your sight”
But I can’t move the mountains for you

Don't you just love when a song speaks to you? Sometimes when I really need a pick me up or simply to feel like someone 'gets it' I'll hear a song that says exactly what I'm thinking. I don't pretend to know a lot about autism, just what I've learned in classes, but I do know how much of a roller coaster it can be for a family. I look forward to reading your posts and getting to know you!
