Getting my Yog on.

I’m burnt out. My anxiety is firing on all cylinders and I’m having panic attacks left and right. I need to do something about it, but i don’t want to go straight to drugs. I would really really love to avoid it if at all possible. I’m just not the type to pop a pill to be able to deal with life. If I was talking about depression, that would be another thing altogether. I just want to be able to RELAX.

And I can’t.

But, I’m married to Yogi Dad and he assures me I’ll be able to make some headway if I get back into the groove. I haven’t done yoga since I bought my first Rodney Yee video way back in 1999*.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before I gave in.

Every day has some form of yoga going on at my house. There are mats and blocks and straps and balls everywhere you look. I’m pretty sure I could tell you which DVD is in just by looking at the color of Ana Brett’s hair. Our babies all get their own mats for their first birthday. Kundalini, Ashtanga, Hatha and Bikram are part of the vocabulary around here. Chanting doesn’t weird me out nearly as much as I thought it would. My bathroom has a stack of yoga magazines as tall as my youngest son.

There is no escaping it.

It’s time. Time to get myself a new mat and line up with the rest of my family.

What is your experience with yoga? How did you start? What’s your favorite piece of gear? (We’re a Jade family.)

*I only remember that because that’s the year I got my cat and I can picture myself on the living room floor of my townhouse doing yoga before work. Also, it’s a video cassette! OLD.

    Yoga is GREAT for relaxing! Also exercising and meditating. I'm no expert but I do exercise and yoga videos on Netflix, and I just take a few minutes whenever I can to sit and think of nothing except myself in a bright healing light. It's not much but since I started doing it I feel a LOT better. I used to get panic attacks, which I don't get anymore. =) (I had a small one yesterday for the first time in forever and I was surprised how quickly I got over it!) And I'm sleeping a LOT better. Hope you have some success too! Also maybe you should try visiting a chiropractor.

    Oh, chiropractor! That's a good one. I really love the chiro but I have no idea how I'd swing it now, I'm sure I have some major issues that would require 2-3 times a weeks for a while. I should look into it though.

    I'm anxious to know if it makes you feel better! I bet it will. I know exercise of any kind reliefs my stress…that with deep breathing and some solitude every day. Good luck!
