I love this time of year. The Christmas music usually takes a few weeks before it really starts to wear on me and even then it’s only a few songs. Happy Christmas (War is Over) and The Christmas Shoes– I’m talking to you.

One of my favorites, no doubt because of Bono and the fact that I have a special place in my heart for the super bands of the 80’s, is Do they Know it’s Christmas with the original 1984 Band Aid line-up.

Or alternately Band Aid 20

How can you listen and not let your mind wander to the crisis in the Horn of Africa and not be moved that over 25 years after this song was released, people are still starving, war is still being waged and food and water are still scarce?

Or text FOOD to UNICEF at 864233; this will donate $10, enough to feed a starving child for ten days.

I love this! It's a great song. When I am stressed or life seems tough, I start thinking about the number of steps it takes for me to get to a faucet, and then I feel like one of the most fortunate people in the world.

I am a strong supporter of charities like Heifer International, Charity: Water, Feeding America and other organizations that work toward community development, empowering women and, most importantly, making sure they don't go hungry.
