Cloth diaper giveaway event!

Welcome to day one of 30 Days of Dipes! Today is sponsored by:

I will be reviewing and giving away a Thirsties Duo Fab Fitted and Duo Wrap. Make sure you also check out Lori from The Gnome’s Moms reviews for Thirsties and BabyKicks– you read that right- she’s got TWO giveaways today!

The Dirty Details:

Let’s get down to business.  I have a lot of love for fitted diapers.  After prefolds, fitteds are my go-to diaper.  I’m sure that has nothing to do with having boys who like to take off their diapers.  A fitted diaper is like the last line of defense for me.  They might get the cover off, but they’ll probably give up trying to get the actual diaper off.

Day Use: 4 Bums Up

Overnight Use: 3.0

Ease of Use: 4.0

Quality: 3.0

Overall: 3.5 Bums Up

Daytime Use: The Thirsties Duo Fab Fitted and Duo Wrap are a very nice daytime combination.  The Duo Fab Fitted has  a nice pocket that can be stuffed if you need a little extra absorbency, the Duo Wrap is wipeable so you can use it for more than one diaper change as long as it’s not soiled.  This fitted is unlike any other fitted I own in that it’s made with a microfleece outer and microfiber inner which makes it super soft and pleasantly absorbent without a lot of bulk.

Overnight Use: We have 3 really heavy wetters and although we never had any huge leaks with this system, the boys were all definitely uncomfortable as they were wet and feeling it.

Ease of Use: The is a pretty simple diaper to use.  Both parts come in both Aplix or snaps so you can stick with what you like best.  All of our Thirsties covers from early on are Aplix but I bought my newborn covers with snaps as I finally made the jump and snaps really hold up better.  There is a snap-down rise that gives you a nice range of sizing, there are also 2 sizes in the “Duo” line, so you can get a pretty customizable fit from newborn to toddler.

Quality:  Overall this is a pretty good diaper.  The one place where it starts to fall down is in it’s ability to wear over time.  I mentioned that I have some Aplix covers from when the twins were first in cloth and they are showing their age.  I’m also fairly wary of microfibers as they tend to have more absorbency issues down the road.

Overall: This diaper has many pros for me- fitted (check!) snaps (check!) brightly colored and cute (check!) soft and comfortable (check!) great absorbency (check!).  It’s trim, it does it’s job and it looks super cute on.  If you are diapering multiple kids or plan to diaper multiple kids I would definitely go with snaps, you’ll get more life out of the cover.  Strip your diapers periodically and you should be able to head off any absorbency or stink issues associated with microfiber.

Thirsties has a great catalog (am I the only one who is excited about the thought of a cloth diaper catalog?) that you can have delivered right to your door so you can page through all their great products.

Snaps are better…. my little man rips aplix off! 😀

Tough question; I get a better fit with aplix every time as snaps never have the crossover snap in the right spot where I need it. My little one has yet to rip off a diaper so no issues there and aplix is more hubby/family friendly. Although my only complaint about aplix is they pil and after prolonged use they look grungy and need to be replaced.

I love snaps…no red marks on DD's tummy, no snagging in the wash…plus, they just seem to hold up better over time.

Snaps. Velcro wears out faster and gets fuzz stuck in it.

Aplix is better for when you are a newbie and need it to be easy. Snaps is better for once you have your cloth diapering confidence and decide you are in it for the long haul!
