Welcome to day seven of 30 Days of Dipes! Today is sponsored by:

30 Days of Dipes SoftBums

To round out week one I will be reviewing and giving away a SoftBums Omni! Make sure you check out the SoftBums reviews at Life with Levi and The Gnome’s Mom as well!

The Dirty Details:

I was very excited to get a chance to review this diaper because A: I had heard a lot of great things about it on these here internets and B: they are made right here in Minnesota!  I LOVE supporting local companies, I just can’t believe it took this long to get a SoftBums diaper in my hands!

Day Use: 4 Bums Up

Overnight Use: 3 Bums Up

Ease of Use: 3 Bums Up

Quality: 4 Bums Up

Overall: 3.5 Bums Up

Daytime Use:  For us, this was a great daytime diaper.  Aplix isn’t our favorite at this stage but I was able to use this mostly on my son that *does* manage to keep his pants on.  (I am sure I just jixed that whole situation- I can barely handle two running around pantless, I cannot handle a 3rd!)  The aplix is nice and wide and really holds well.  During the day we were able to get by stuffed with a pod without a problem.

Overnight Use:  This wasn’t the best match for us overnight.  All three of my boys are extremely heavy wetters and I usually need to stuff diapers quite a bit to get through the night without a leak.  At the size my boys are (all pushing 30lbs) the Omni just didn’t have the room to add our usual go-to overnight stuffing (2 infant pre-folds) and get it securely fastened.

Ease of Use:   This diaper should be easy, but for some reason anytime I am faced with adjustments of any kind I get all nervous about ruining the diaper beyond repair.  (I once had a brand new Fuzzibunz sit idle in my stash for 6 months because I was afraid of the elastic.  True Story.)  A couple of tips- when using the Omni as an AI2- the pod insert has two sides, one that can touch the baby’s skin (fleece) and one that should not (microfiber is not good for baby’s skin as it sucks the natural oils right out), make sure you fold the pod *under* (I didn’t always do this).  The Slide2Size adjustment system is great, if you read the directions first.  I thought I had it all figured out and then I noticed a hole at the top of my diaper and sent an email to SoftBums asking them if I should return this “defective diaper”…Public Service Announcement: the “thumb hole” is supposed to be there, the diaper is not coming apart at the seams!  I am including this video from SoftBums which  shows in great detail towards the end how to adjust the Slide2Size elastic.  The video makes it look so easy, it’s much more difficult on a squirmy toddler- I use this diaper for just one of the boys so I don’t have to adjust.

Quality:  The SoftBums Omni has some great features- the pod is nice and long, easy to double up and get coverage where needed without having to keep track of multiple inserts.   The aplix is wide and sturdy and has the cross-over ability needed for a good fit on smaller infants.  The PUL is thick and durable.

Overall:  I think once you figure out the Slide2Size feature, you are probably going to like this diaper and the many ways it can be used- as an AI2, as a pocket, as a cover.  It’s a very versitile diaper.

I have only ever purchased cloth online…sadly, the one store in town that sold cloth went out of business before I had the chance to buy from them!
