Why all the Cloth Diaper Giveaways?

Is this thing on?  Testing, One Two?

Okay, great…

So, a few months back (way back), I decided I wanted to do some reviews and giveaways.  I was just plodding along, doing my thing.  Blogging about Stanley and music and MU football and  my kids and my husband and sometimes my job and then breastfeeding and then Autism and I noticed all of these other bloggers doing reviews and giveaways.

It sounded fun.   A nice change of pace.  I like trying out products.  I like giving things away.  What is better than giving gifts to people?  Maybe a super delicious chocolate cake with no calories, but you get my drift.  Giving is FUN!  People get exited about winning!  So I dabbled a bit doing random giveaways for products I like.  And it was just as I had imagined- a nice change of pace and fun to award something to a reader of mine.  (This is my very first giveaway, I was so nervous about this!  Check out my 15 entries!)

There was one thing I had never done though.  A cloth diaper review and giveaway.

Every mom blogger under the sun, whether they have cloth diapered a day in their life or not has done a cloth diaper review and giveaway.  I actually think that’s in the rule book.

Section 8, Part 6.7: Mom bloggers must do cloth diaper reviews and giveaways.

Or something like that.

But I hadn’t.  And I have 3 kids in cloth diapers.  I have been cloth diapering nonstop for 34 months and I was now well versed in the process of doing reviews and giveawys.  I wanted in on this!

Mostly because it looked fun, I love cloth diapers, and with 2 kids with Autism, I have no end to diapering in sight.  So I decided I wanted to do it.  Back in September I started contacting companies.  And they started saying YES!  (Why they didn’t just delete my novel of a pitch letter is beyond me!)

So I decided I was going to make this an *event* and maybe do a few giveaways a week for a month.

I was going to call it 30 Days of Dipes and do all my drawings on January 31st (in case you were wondering why it’s not 31 Days of Dipes).

Then I recruited two of my best blogging buddies who happen to also cloth diaper and it got bigger- we toyed with the idea of 10 giveaways each, one for each day.  And we had official 30 Days of Dipes things made by a designer (the fabulous Jenn)- like banners and buttons and promotional materials.  And then it got bigger.

Like, REALLY Big.

And here we are.  Halfway through the 30 Days of Dipes event.  It’s my baby.  My project.  These giveaways, this event is only here because I wanted to do *a* cloth diaper review.

I feel so blessed to be able to work with all of these sponsors and be able to gift these awesome prizes to fellow cloth diapering moms.  It’s both exhausting and exhilarating at the same time.  Writing reviews is no easy task.  Writing 30+ reviews for products that are in the end, quite similar, is really draining.  My head hurts.  This is a pretty big deal putting this all together.  This is just three of us, reviewing, writing, promoting, doing all the back-end working with companies.  It’s harder than it looks.  I will be happy for a little break when it’s over.

But this weekend, when I was able to draw winners I finally saw the payoff for the hard work.  We are getting to the fun part!

So, just a few things because I know giveaways can get tedious and sometimes overwhelming:

#1-  There is only 1 mandatory entry on each of my giveaways, everything else is optional.  So if you feel overwhelmed by the huge Rafflecopter form, just do the mandatory entry and move on.  By the way- I am loving your answers to my questions!  I’m hoping to maybe pull your answers from some of these questions and make some graphs once I recover from this event, it’s interesting to see how many of you love pockets for overnights or hate snaps or stuff your pockets last when folding diaper laundry.  Lots of good stuff in these answers!

#2-  The clicking around isn’t to be confusing and it’s not all about getting more pageviews.  I have a few elements to this event that are just easier if they are kept seperate:

–  The Sponsors Page– this is just a shout-out to all the sponsors participating in this event.  Please give them some love!  If they don’t get love they are less likely to work with bloggers and do reviews and giveaways in the future.  This needs to be beneficial to them.  They are a great bunch of companies and we are so grateful to have them.  30 Days of Dipes would not exist without them!

–  The 30 Days of Dipes page– this has links to both reviews and giveaways for each sponsor broken up by week.

–  The reviews- this should be obvious, each product gets a review so you know a little more about each cloth diaper (or cloth diaper accessory).

–  The giveaway pages- these are kept seperate because in the past there have been issues with Rafflecopter forms if there is more than one on a page and since each review has it’s own giveaway, they each get their own form and thus their own page.

#3-  I have tried really hard to make sure everything has links- you can always get to the giveaways from the 30 Days of Dipes Page, you can always get to the 30 Days of Dipes page from either the button on my sidebar or from the drop-down tab in my navigation bar.  I update with links to the reviews and giveaways on The Gnome’s Mom and Life With Levi so you can access those easily as well.

We are really trying to make this as easy as possible while at the same time being good for us and for our sponsors.  The more love we get means we’ll have more giveaways in the future.  The more love our sponsors get means the more giveaways they will sponsor with other bloggers in the future.

So…15 more days of giveaways.

I have a feeling that this is going to go really quickly now that we have hit the half-way point and I really want this to be successful and fun.  I know cloth diapers are not everyone’s cup of tea, but this is only temporary!  I still have the Breastfeeding Blog Hop and other posts to get you through so if you’re getting bored or  talk of double leg gussets and envelope style pockets makes your eyes roll back in your head- hang tight!  This won’t last forever!

And if you love cloth diapers and giveaways….we are glad you joined us!
