Welcome to day number 17 of 30 Days of Dipes! Today is sponsored by:
Today is another day of cloth diapering accessories or supplies here at The Slacker Mom. I am reviewing and giving away a box of Eco Nuts all natural laundry soap. Lori over at The Gnome’s mom is reviewing the Eco Nuts liquid laundry detergent and Jen at Life with Levi is reviewing the Sprout Change diaper– this is unlike any diaper you have seen!
The Dirty Details:
One of the things that can trip up cloth diapering parent is figuring out the right laundry detergent to use. Some detergents can have extra additives (fragrance, whiteners, softeners) that can break down your diaper or cause issues with absorption so you want something that is going to get you diapers clean without all of the things you *don’t* want.
There are many detergents marketed to cloth diapering parents, but Eco Nuts are unlike any other out there.
Eco Nuts are dried berry shells from the Sapindus mukorossi tree in Asia. The berry shells contain a natural cleaner called saponin that works as a surfactant which breaks the surface tension of the water and penetrates the fibers, lifting stains away. Eco Nuts leave no residues making them completely safe for cloth diapers.
Because they are so mild they are great for those with sensitive skin.
To use the Eco Nuts you put them in a little canvas bag and tie it shut. One bag is good for 10 loads of laundry- this even works in HE or front loading machines. You toss in the bag at the beginning of the load and then take it out before you toss the diapers into the dryer.
I have only used the Eco Nuts Natural Laundry Soap on a couple of occasions. So far we haven’t had any issues with repelling, stinks or rashes which is always a good sign for me. We seems to strike out when trying different detergents so no rashy bums is always a good sign at my house.
I only have one issue so far with the Eco Nuts- I’m not getting a really fresh smell coming from my diaper laundry. There are no stinks, just that odd not quite clean but still clean scent (I have the same hang-up with free and clear detergents) I like my laundry to smell clean. Not fragrance-y, just clean.
I do like that this is a completely natural product. I like that there are no chemicals, no additives, nothing to mess up the diapers. I am hoping that this ends up being a great addition to the cloth diapering laundry repertoire!
