The Dirty Details:
(I previously reviewed the Apple Cheeks diaper so this will be mostly a rehash with a little info on a different insert.)
There has always been something about AppleCheeks that has caught my eye. I don’t know if it’s the bright vibrant colors or the sweetly ruffled waist and leg elastic or what, but it’s always been on my list of cute diapers I need to try! I finally got my chance!
Day Use: 4.0Bums Up
Overnight Use: 3.0 Bums Up
Ease of Use: 4.0 Bums Up
Quality: 4.0 Bums Up
Overall: 3.75 Bums Up
Daytime Use: The AppleCheeks was perfect for daytime use. The microterry insert was fairly trim, fitting under all of the boys pants easily. The insert handled naptime with ease and it’s one of the few diapers that Wyatt didn’t take off immediately, so that goes in the “win” pile!
Overnight Use: The microterry insert did not handle overnights on it’s own and I did not use a booster this time- trying to use diapers As-Is. That said, there is plenty of room to stuff. Prefolds would not be a problem, multiple inserts would not be a problem. Now let’s remember that I have extremely heavy wetters and pockets are usually no match for them at night.
Ease of Use: This diaper is actually one of the easier diapers to stuff. The envelope style opening is more towards the center so you have more access to both ends. The microterry insert has a nice red serge on it so it’s easily identifiables as belonging to an AppleCheeks diaper. The insert also comes free in the wash all by itself- so no more unstuffing diapers before tossing them in!
Quality: This diaper has some great features working for it- the wide opening is probably my favorite simply because it makes things so easy to maneuver. The 2 size system is nice because you will always have the best fit regardless of what size child you have- trying to make a teeny infant fit into the same diaper your 35 pound toddler is wearing usually means your itty bitty is drowning in fluff and your hulking toddler is stretched at the seams- not so with this 2-size system! They also sell waist extenders available in 8 colors for when you need to eek out a little more because of an extra chunky set of thighs. AppleCheeks are designed and Manufactured in Canada.
Overall: I thought, for a pocket style diaper (they call it envelope) this was pretty great. They have some nice things that push it over the edge like the waist extenders that will definitely extend the amount of time I will be able to use this diaper. The elastic on the front and the back of the waist is a nice touch too. I did like the bamboo insert a bit better, I’m a sucker for natural fabrics. that said, this was one of the nicer microfiber inserts I have used.
