Breastfeeding Blog Hop hosted by The Slacker Mom

Welcome to week 14 of the Breastfeeding Blog Hop!

This week’s topic is: Exercise and Breastfeeding

I’ve read conflicting information over the past 3 years regarding exercise while breastfeeding, so I’m just going to tell you about *my* experience.

When the twins were a few months old I was ready to start working out.  Within 2 weeks of their birth I had dropped 40 pounds (I had only gained 17) and now I was slowly gaining it back.  I didn’t want to gain it back.  I was skinnier than I had been in at least 5 years and I wanted the scale to go the opposite direction.  So I bought the 30 Day Shred DVD and started to work out.

My big reward was a huge reduction in my supply.  So I stopped working out and it came back up a bit.

And that was the end of exercise for me while nursing.

With Judah I didn’t even think about working out because while we were barely limping along, we were making progress and I wasn’t going to do anything that might endanger that.

Because of my experience, I’m a bit leery of jumping into a strict exercise reoutine but I also know that not everyone has the same outcome as I did, I also got a fat burner from a detailed guide to uk fat burners that I read, and it think it has helped out a lot lately. What has your experience been?  Have you started working out or are you waiting to test the waters?  Did you notice any changes in your supply?.  I think the biggest thing to know going in is to listen to your body.  If you start working out and notice negative changes, don’t hesitate to dial it back a bit.

The Breastfeeding Blog Hop is a weekly hop where moms can share their breastfeeding experiences.  We have a new topic each week and we love to meet new bloggers!  The hop is hosted by The Gnome’s Mom, Happiness Redefined and myself!  Link up!

Proof that everyone is different! I did a couple weeks of the Shred and other workouts and cut calories dramatically. Barely any weight loss so far (I have 20 pounds to lose to get to my pre-baby weight and my kid is 18 months old!) and no noticeable drop in supply either. Thankful for no drop obviously but it's very frustrating when my body holds on to every calorie! And I feel like I'm nursing all. the. time.

I like your post. I dropped most of my prepregnancy weight by my 6 week checkup, but like I wrote, one of my biggest regrets was not getting active sooner. I've been gaining it back! I used many excuses I don't have time or It's cold outside or I'm tired. All of which were/are true, but for me it was about priorities.

I'm reading everything I can get my hands on! With any luck, my breastfeeding experience will begin in the next week, as I'm very close to my due date, and I'm excited to experience mommyhood for the first time!

I'd like to say that I tried exercising while nursing, but just used it as an excuse not to. However I was told that nursing was supposed to burn more calories. Not my experience or maybe I made up for it by eating more =)

While I was carrying my second child (and I am not saying this is the way to do it) I was 42 and because of that I was so tired I never did anything, I basically spend 9 months sitting around. We are both healthy now but I did wonder at the time!
