Newman’s Own Organics {A Review & Giveaway}

You’ve heard of Newman’s Own, right?  For years they have made my favorite salsa (Pineapple) and salad dressing (Toasted Sesame).  When I heard about Newman’s Own Organics, I incorrectly assumed it was the same company.

Because it’s not.  (Well, not anymore anyways.)

Newman’s Own Organics was established as a division of Newman’s Own in 1993, and became a separate company in late 2001. Paul Newman has given over $200 million to thousands of charities worldwide since 1982.  ~ from their website

Newman’s Own Organics has quite the collection of products- everything from cookies and crackers to dried fruit, coffee and even pet food.  I was sent a selection of their most popular products and I am happy to say, a few of them might be replacing our old stand-by’s!  Lucky me a lot of these can be found at Target.

Here’s the verdict (and this was tough to narrow down).

Best Cookie- Newman-O’s.

Newman's Own Organics cookies

More specifically Chocolate Creme Newman O’s.  They were awesome.  Because we are trying to cut out the processed foods as much as possible and really stick to single portion sizes, I was able to stretch t he package of these out for a few weeks.  No small feat considering I used to inhale Oreo’s 6 at a time.

The runner-up in the cookie category were the Low-Fat Fig Newmans which also come in no-fat and a wheat free, dairy free variety.  After eating these, Judah has taken to calling all cookies “Newts”.  It’s kind for charming.

The Boys Favorite: Mighty-Mini Pretzels.

Organic Pretzels

Pretzels aren’t usually a staple around here.  I’m not a huge fan and since I do the shopping, well I get to pick what kind of snacks go in the cart.  Lately that has been next to nothing because: trying to eat healthy!  All the boys in my house, Yogi Dad included, loved the pretzels.  The right amount of crunch, the right amount of salt.

The boys also really enjoyed the Dried Prunes.  Judah maybe a little too much.

My Favorite: Chocolate Cups.

Dark Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Cups

We were sent the Caramel Cups in both Milk and Dark Chocolate and they were amazing.  (And I’m not a super big fan of caramel.)  At 160 calories for 3 cups (1 package), they were not an end of the day caloric budget breaker!

The Milk and Dark Chocolate Bars were also really satisfying.  One square at a time is really all you need and I am happy to say I was able to stick to that and not devour the entire bar in one sitting.  And yes.  I ate all of the chocolate in the box they sent.  Sorry Yogi Dad!

And the new staple…Wintergreen Mints.

Wintergreen purse mints

Yogi Dad would argue that the Ginger Mints are better (I think he ate an entire tin in one sitting) but the Wintergreen has found a permanent place in my purse.

The best part about the snacks from Newman’s Own Organics is they are all certified organic.  I know they are still processed and it’s best to eliminate processed foods altogether, but I do feel better knowing that if I am going to buy cookies, they aren’t filled with ingredients I can’t pronounce.

So here’s the scoop- Newman’s Own Organics wants to send one of you my four favorite items: The Chocolate Creme Newman O’s, the Mighty Mini Pretzels, the Caramel Chocolate Cups, and the Wintergreen Mints.  They’ll even drop in an extra surprise!
