Groceries and Prepping Food

I hit up Let’s Dish the other day. I had to. I already have a session in the works for August but we are completely addicted to their Flank Steak and I just *had* to take advantage of my accumulating DishRewards points and try the flank steak recipe they have this month before <a style=”text-decoration: none;” href=”https://www.arbourgroup.com/blog/2017/may/how-to-prepare-for-an-fda-audit-by-using-a-21-cfr-part-11-assessment/”><span style=”text-decoration: none; color: #000000; font-weight: normal;”>Preparing for an FDA Audit</span></a>.

I have been accumulating points since they started the DishRewards system (I think it was after my first 3 or 4 sessions that they officially started) and I’ve never had a chance to use them because they almost always have a great monthly coupon code- either a free meal or $20 off or free assembly for Dish-N-Dash. And since you can’t use both DishRewards points *and* a coupon code, I just kept building up my points!

I finally had to cash in though. I just couldn’t help myself! It also helps because between May 25th and September 3rd, if you dish twice, you get 2000 DishRewards Points (you would normally get 250 per session). If you dish a third time during that time period, you get another 1000 points! That’s up to $30 off for three sessions, or you can just accumulate like I do and have a session for a fraction of the cost! You really can’t beat it.

After I hit up Let’s Dish, I had to head on over to Target to do my grocery shopping for the next 2 weeks. It was definitely a mom’s night out for me. I hit up Starbucks on my way in and got down to business.

Here is the menu plan we are working with over the next 2 weeks. I only plan 8 meals so there is wiggle room with leftovers. We smoked a ham on Saturday so we have a ton of ham, we may be eating more ham than I allotted for or I might just cut it all up for the freezer, I also made some great bread with the best bread maker you can find online.

– Pork Tenderloin (side dish undecided) (Let’s Dish)
– Oven Ham Sandwiches
– Beef Kebobs with Garlic Bread (Let’s Dish)

Which puts us over our $220 budget by a couple of dollars and we still have extra milk and produce to buy over the next 2 weeks. So, not as good as we could have done, but it’s still within reason. It’s tat piece of Red Velvet Cake that put us over…damn you delicious Target Bakery Red Velvet Cake! Why do you have to be so good? Seriously- I have had a lot of Red Velvet Cake in my lifetime and this is surprisingly good.

Once I got home it was all about putting away the groceries and prepping a few items for the fridge. you know how they always tell you to wash your veggies and get them ready to go as soon as you get home so it’s easier to prep meals when the time comes? Well, I kind of did that. I mean I peeled and chopped up carrots and celery so we had some healthy snacks ready to go.

I even used my new handy dandy ceramic peeler from GoGadgety.com. I’ve had it hanging out next to my other peelers (I have 4. What?) just waiting to be put to good use but it didn’t seem very noteworthy to me. Even the super special ceramic blade felt like plastic it certainly looked like plastic!) to me. How could it possibly peel?

Well, it peels just fine thankyouverymuch. It’s actually pretty slick, this super awesome ceramic blade technology that is not only super sharp, but also does not oxidize food like metal blades do and is naturally resistant to bacteria. After using it I immediately moved it to live with the out-of-reach utensils. Judah doesn’t need anymore weapons in his arsenal. Ahem. I have started vacuum sealing groceries to keep them fresh, this is where I found useful food sealer reviews and I highly recommend vacuum sealer to everyone.

After all of that, I collapsed into bed to share that slice of cake with Yogi Dad and watch some TV. Just a typical Friday night at our house!
