5 Steps to the Perfect Photo Cards

Posted: October 15th, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Reviews and Giveaways | Tags: Giveaway, Holiday Cards | 15 Comments »

It’s that time of year again- time to sit down and wade through the seemingly endless options for Christmas Cards over at Shutterfly.

How do you choose?

Where do you start?

Do I even have card worthy photos to use this year?

Regardless of the answers to those questions, I know I need to start this process early, because I am notoriously bad at getting my cards in the mail. So, today I am starting the process and thought you might want a glimpse of the madness.

First off, I’m always so impressed with the quality of these cards and I look forward to receiving them in the mail almost as much as I look forward to receiving Christmas cards in general. That said, it can be a lot of work.

Especially in years where we didn’t get professional photos taken. (Like this year.)

#1 I should start by picking the photos (or photo) I want to use, and doing my edits (if needed) but, I almost always start by looking at what my options are on Shutterfly.  If I really love a design that only has a one photo option, it’s not worth my time to choose and edit three or more photos.

#2 If you are indecisive like me- choose more than one design. Last year was the first year I did this and I was so happy with that decision. I can do whimsical!  I can do traditional!  I can do religious!  When you have a lot of cards to send, it’s a revelation to choose some different options and satisfy all of your wants and needs in a card.

#3 Edit photos. I use Pic Monkey for my photo editing needs since it’s free and easy.

#4 Drop photos into your card(s) add your text and place your order.

#5 Cross “Christmas Cards” off your holiday to-do list and sit back and relax!

Have you started to think about Christmas Cards yet? Would you be moved to get going on them if you had $50 to spend at Shutterfly.com?

Easy Canvas Prints {A Review and Giveaway}

Since moving 16ish months ago we have done fairly little to decorate our humble abode. A few pieces of art- holdouts from our college/ newlywed years are on the walls, but I never got around to pulling out the photographs. If something is going to come crashing down, I don’t want to worry about it getting broken or torn.

We have toyed with the idea of a gallery wall in the living room, but anything the boys can touch ends up on the floor, so nothing has made it to those walls just yet. If you think the fact that something is 6 feet off the ground means it can’t be reached- you’ve obviously never lived with boys.

I *MISS* Retail!

Not that I want to throw my hat back into the ring or anything- that ship has sailed. But I just love a brand new shiny store.

There is just something about seeing a new concept being rolled out, aisle by aisle that is so satisfying.  When you can finally unveil that new store experience to your customers, they don’t necessarily see all the little things that went into the new design, but hopefully they will be wowed by the big picture.

Cloth Diaper retailers from Minnesota

About 6 months ago I found the most amazing group of cloth diapering moms ever on Facebook. Through that group I have met some great local WAHM’s who make fab diapers as well as some great local retailers. The Bizzing Bea Baby Emporium (AKA The Bizzing Bea) is run by a great mom I’ve met through the group (although she’s since migrated east to Wisconsin!).

One of the things that can really throw you for a loop when cloth diapering is finding the perfect laundry routine.  It seems like everyone has a different combination of detergents and additives that they use to make their diapers come out clean, absorbent and stink free based on the quality of their water.  Recently the RDA has come out with a new washing routine.  Spoiler alert: the biggest change is to use WARM water rinses!  Who knew?

Friday Favorites Giveaway {Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day + Caldrea}

Posted: June 24th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Reviews and Giveaways | Tags: Caldrea. Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, Cleaning, Cleaning Products, Essential Oils, Giveaway, Giveaways, Green Cleaning, Product Reviews, Reviews and Giveaways | 33 Comments »

A few weeks ago I talked about how I’m trying to go green with my cleaning products. It’s definitely a process. I would say I’m about half-way there in getting rid of my old favorites (for review they would be: bleach, Lysol and Mr. Clean) and replacing them with something a bit less toxic.

One of my first loves ever in fancy schmancy best odor eliminator cleaning products was the hometown favorite Caldrea. Caldrea products are full of plant-derived ingredients and essential oils instead of harsh chemicals, the packaging is smart and the scents are amazing.  I remember getting a little 3-piece sink set at my Bridal shower that I would scour gift shops and boutiques in Columbia Missouri where we were living looking for replacement bottles when I ran out of my precious dish soap and hand soap.

When we moved to our 100 year old duplex in Minneapolis and had no dishwasher we started going through dish soap by the gallon. I quickly found that keeping that expensive dish soap on hand wasn’t really part of the budget at the rate we were going through it.

Enter Mrs. Meyers Clean Day. Funny enough, I wasn’t aware that Mrs. Meyers was owned by Caldrea…that works out quite well for me as I love to support local companies.  Like Caldrea, it’s got lovely scents that aren’t overly sweet or cloying and again, all natural ingredients and essential oils. Both brands tend towards the herbal and floral and are mostly single note scents- Rosemary, Parsley, Geranium.

Once I was hooked on the dish soap I moved on to my absolute favorite Mrs. Meyers Clean Day product- the Geranium Surface Scrub. This is the product that I used to clean my cherished claw foot tub. It was like special treatment for my little oasis.

Back to those scents- I live in a house full of boys. Well, a man and lots of little men. They are smelly. Three kids in diapers is SMELLY. You know what makes me happy? When opening the bathroom door gives me a nice waft of Basil Blue Sage hand soap instead of a diaper pail.

I have had a love affair with another brand’s counter top spray in the past and am now hooked on Caldrea’s Sea Salt and Neroli counter top spray. If you follow me on Twitter you may have seen me going on and on about the loveliness that was the scent in my kitchen and my table top and anything else I could convince myself counted as a “counter top”. It’s the little things.

So I’ve got some favorites here and they aren’t going to break the bank if I keep them in my cleaning arsenol, even on my budget. If you are looking to save a few pennies, go for the Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day, you’ll get the same quality of the Caldrea and look smart while doing it. Although I don’t think you’ll regret choosing either. If you need help cleaning your windows then hire Long Island home window cleaning service.

It’s full of no-nonsense tips and tricks to keeping a clean home.Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day is going to give one of my readers a copy of their book- Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Home! Mrs. Meyers book

To enter this giveaway you must visit either Mrs. Meyers or Caldrea and tell me which product or scent you are most interested in.
